Lead User Researcher

up to £85,000 + Share options + Benefits

London Victoria, Hybrid 2-3 days per week in office

This growing Fintech company in central London is looking to hire a Lead User Researcher to join their Design team. You will be spearheading their user research practice, to deliver actionable insights which will inform the end-to-end design of their products and services. Working together with product managers, designers, engineers, data specialists and other key stakeholders from across the business, you will play a leading role in bringing new products to market, while playing a key part in helping us to forge a top tier user-centred design culture.

What you'll do:


  • Help build a deep understanding of current and potential users through a variety of ongoing research methods.
  • Drive adoption of a range of research methods across the business.
  • Develop and apply a playbook of user research best practices, tools, and techniques.
  • Articulate insights in a way that is accessible and digestible to the wider business, along with guidance and recommendations.
  • Help gather, centralise and index customer knowledge and insights into a single view.
  • Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues, from Design, Product and Engineering, to Marketing, Sales, and Operations.
  • Be a visible advocate for user research and engage with sceptical stakeholders to understand and appreciate its value to the business.
  • Collaborate with and guide teams to take a user-centred, evidence-based approach to design and delivery, actively fostering broad participation.
  • Be hyper-aware of security, compliance, and regulatory considerations, incorporating them in everything that we do and build.
  • Help establish a user-centred mindset and culture.


Who you are:


  • You are an experienced practitioner able to plan and lead on multiple research initiatives.
  • Research skills: solid experience and understanding of a range of research methods. You can advise colleagues on the choice and application of method to assure best practice across different project stages and situations. You know how to help an organisation continually improve their research practice to generate clear and valuable findings.
  • Strategic insight: You understand what problem the team is trying to solve and can identify research opportunities to inform decision making and action.
  • Analytical skills: you can determine what is important from qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Persuasiveness: evangelise the value of user research and how recommendations will solve problems. Turn research data into clear findings that inform decisions, engage colleagues and challenge assumptions.
  • User-centred and agile practices: you understand user-centred design practices, tools, and techniques, and know how to embed them into an agile workflow.
  • Proven leadership: you are comfortable leading teams on research initiatives and have strong group facilitation skills.
  • Practical: you are eager to roll up your sleeves and break down problems into actionable steps, activities, and deliverables.
  • Communication: you are an expert at quickly crafting clear, lean presentations, documents and shared artefacts as required, as well as presenting and talking about your work.
  • Knowledge repositories: Experienced working with research and knowledge repositories with a robust taxonomy and indexing, enabling insights to be discoverable for others.
  • Pragmatic: you consider business needs and find solutions that satisfy both business and user goals.
  • Passionate about Fintech, Financial Services and the entrepreneur/venture ecosystem.

This role will be a hybrid working model of 2-3 days on site and the rest remote.
