Bristol Tech Festival is fast approaching, and as community partners, we’re so excited to see the huge range of events taking place across the city. With over 70 events spread across 5 days, each day has its own theme. These are purpose, protect, people, play and pioneer. Bristol’s tech ecosystem is booming, and the festival is an excellent way to showcase the very best the region has to offer. 

We thought we’d share a few of the events we’re getting involved in, as well as one we’re hosting, to help inspire you with which events to attend.

SouthWest Showcase: Monday 10th October - 13.30-17.30

On Monday 10th October we’ll be attending the SouthWest Showcase which brings together the best of the region’s tech sector. Kicking off the event will be 5 of the South West’s best companies who each have 5 minutes to showcase themselves. The event will then move into panel discussions where we’ll hear from Alan, our co-founder and CEO, and others to discuss how the tech sector can help the wider community, what unites and divides the sector and the rise of AI. After lunch, the event will end with some speed networking, offering the opportunity to meet some like-minded people and grow your network.

How to create and retain high performance teams: Wednesday 12th October - 08.45-10.30

On the morning of Wednesday 12th October, Alan will be on the panel of AND Digital’s event alongside other industry experts to discuss everything from how to manage and structure teams, advice on developing your leadership style and understanding how to maintain the sustained performance of teams.

Getting your first 10 hires right: how to build the right startup team: Wednesday 12th October - 11.30-12.30

Later on Wednesday morning, Alan will be hosting a virtual event on how to get your first 10 hires right. The session will be 1 hour long and will focus on addressing three of the most common concerns that founders face:

• Hiring role by role, struggling to see past the short-term
• Unsure about how to make yourself stand out
• Afraid of the consequences of a bad hire

The session aims to combat these worries by talking about preparation, marketing mindset and retention, and by the end you’ll feel confident about attracting and retaining great talent. You’ll also have the opportunity to book an individual session with Alan, to help discuss any of your hiring challenges in more detail.

University Fintech Talent Showcase: Wednesday 12th October - 13.30-17.00

Finally, on Wednesday afternoon, we’re heading to the University FinTech Talent showcase where we’ll be able to watch 6 student projects, focusing on the growing world of FinTech. Our co-founder and CEO Alan will also be sharing some industry perspectives at the event, talking about the skills demand in FinTech and what’s needed from education providers and students to help develop the talent pool.
