Get to know the team: Henry
Henry Keeys, March 8th 2023

Welcome to our latest blog series – get to know the team. We wanted to give you a chance to get to know the people behind the emails and phonecalls, and to get an inside look at who we are and what we do.

So, without further ado, here’s Henry, our Co-Founder and COO.

What’s your role at ISL?

I am a Founder with the grand job title of COO – Chief Operating Officer. Really, all this means is that I’ll do anything the business needs me to do.

How did you get into recruitment?

I think the same as a lot of people, I fell into it! I had been doing an operational management role in the entertainment industry. I really enjoyed the diversity of the role and working with people, recruitment seemed like it would be a good next step to me. 20 years later, I’m still here!

How do you differentiate yourself from other consultants in the industry?

I am always looking to be completely transparent and honest. I strive to build strong, trusted relationships with my clients to make sure I can support them wherever needed.

What roles or type of clients most excite you?

I love working with scaling companies that are growing, have a great vision and purpose. Being brought into that journey and supporting businesses on their path to success really excites me. To be honest, there aren’t any roles I like working on more than others, I just like to understand how the role fits into the team and how it’ll make a wider impact on the business.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I’d be lying If I said anything other than seeing someone get placed into a role they love. Being able to see how delighted the candidates are when they’re delivered the offer is brilliant. Over the last few years, I’ve also really enjoyed driving my colleagues to success. Seeing them progress in their roles has been equally rewarding.

What are some misconceptions people have about recruitment consultants?

I think the main misconception I've seen over the years is that so many people believe recruiters are in it solely for themselves and are selfish individuals just after commission. However, the vast majority of recruiters I've worked with over the years are genuinely good people who want to do a great job for both their clients and candidates.

What would be your best piece of advice for a founder looking to grow their startup?

My main advice would be to make your hiring front and centre of your plans, rather than just assume it will fall into place. Your product or service is key, but the people you have on your team are the most important asset you’ll ever have. Great ideas fail without great people, so planning an effecting hiring strategy is a crucial element of success.

What would be your best piece of advice for a candidate looking to join a startup?

I would tell any candidate to find a company that they can feel passionate about working for and that the product or service means something to them. Go into the startup interview process with an understanding of how you will play your part and make an impact in the success of that business.
